Blue Star Service Dogs is a Michigan-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting both Veterans and First Responders living with PTSD, TBI, and other service-related challenges. We don’t just train dogs, we build teams. Every dog in our program is rescued from a shelter and given a second chance. Many begin their journey in our prison training program, where incarcerated handlers work with them daily to build a strong foundation. From there, each dog is carefully matched with a veteran or first responder. Once paired, that team trains together with us for a full year before graduation. This ensures both the handler and the dog are confident, prepared, and working together as a strong, reliable team. These dogs are trained in over 30 tasks tailored to the individual, helping with things like interrupting anxiety, disrupting nightmares, creating space in public, and providing stability in everyday life. Most importantly, all of our services are provided at no cost to the veteran or first responder. At Blue Star, we believe in rescuing one to heal another , giving both the dog and the person a new purpose and a way forward together.
